We live about an hour's drive from San Francisco and the Holy Virgin Cathedral which was built by St. John. As you may know, when St. John reposed, he was placed in a coffin and brought to a small chapel in the lower floor of Holy Virgin Cathedral. This was done with the special permission of the supervisors of San Francisco. They made an exception to the law that no one can be buried within the city limits. We often brave the traffic and visit St. John for a day of prayer. It is a very great blessing.
While reading the Lives of the Saints in the Great Synaxaristes of the Orthodox Church, (published by Holy Apostle Convent, Buena Vista, Colorado), we were very surprised, and pleased, to see a life of St. John. It is with joy that we are making this life available to those who visit this website. Simply clink on the link below for a 36 page life of St. John, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco.
